Teaching tips

  • Practice the "make 10" pairs (1 + 9, 2 + 8, 3 + 7, 4 + 6, 5 + 5) on their own before mixing them in.
  • Teach turn-around facts: a child who knows 2 + 7 also knows 7 + 2.
  • A ten-frame drawn on scrap paper is a quick support for children who still count every object.
